Baylor's Summer of Discovery is making it easy for incoming Baylor students to get a jump start on undergraduate classes this summer with discounted online courses.
Summer of Discovery classes will be taught by Baylor faculty in the supportive Christian environment that is a hallmark of a Baylor education. In addition, students will learn alongside new friends who will be a part of their lives on campus.
Here's how it works:
- Review the Summer of Discovery online course list and summer sessions in which they are offered.
- Summer classes are available across two summer sessions in 2024— Summer 1 (June 3 - July 9) and Summer 2 (July 10 - Aug. 13).
- Students may choose to attend one or both summer sessions.
- Keep in mind that if you choose to do Baylor Line Camp (which we highly recommend), you must choose an alternating summer session for Summer of Discovery classes.
As a part of the Summer of Discovery program, courses are discounted from regular tuition. Undergraduate courses taken at Baylor in the Summer are discounted from regular tuition. The tuition per credit hour for students is $1,450 per semester hour. Each student will receive one-semester bill with charges for all summer classes. The financial obligation for Summer must be met by the due date listed on your bill. If you register after the semester due date, payment is due in full by the date indicated on the next monthly billing statement.
If you have any questions about summer billing, please contact Student Accounts.
- Students may take a maximum of 8 hours in any single summer session.
- After receiving your Baylor acceptance, students interested in Summer of Discovery will login to their goBAYLOR account and change their entry term to Summer 2024.
- Please keep in mind that any courses you might take this summer will be part of your college transcript and will count toward your cumulative GPA, so make sure you're prepared for however many hours you decide to take.
Summer Courses
Once you have officially changed your entry term to the summer, an academic advisor will work with you to select the courses that will work best for your academic goals.
To get an idea of the course section that best fits your schedule, students can search Baylor’s schedule of classes. The course offerings can be narrowed down by using filters on the search page. To begin your initial search, choose:
- 2024-Summer
- Summer Session (select the session you plan to enroll)
- Online
From here, if you want to filter your search further, you may choose a College (Arts & Sciences, Business, Engineering and Computer Science, Education, and so forth), as well as a Subject area under the Course Prefix filter.
Please pay attention to the delivery method when choosing the course that you are interested in taking:
Asynchronous classes let students complete their work on their own time. Students are given a timeframe during which they need to connect to their class. The good news is that in asynchronous courses, you could hit the books no matter what hour of day (or night). When you look at the schedule of classes, asynchronous courses won't show a day or time.
Synchronous classes occur on set schedules and time frames. Students and instructors are online at the same time in synchronous classes since lectures, discussions and presentations take place at specific hours. When you look at the schedule of classes, synchronous courses will show specific days and time.
PLEASE NOTE:
In order to ensure compliance with state laws regarding consent to treatment, the reduced student fees payable for the online summer session by non-degree-seeking students, incoming freshmen, and transfers do not permit access to Baylor Health Services or Counseling Center. Academic counseling, applicable academic accommodations for disabilities, and other academic services are available for online non-degree-seeking students, incoming freshmen, and transfers. Online students who are present in Waco may use University Libraries, McLane Student Life Center, and other facilities that are open to students. All facilities are subject to closure at any time per government order or at Baylor’s discretion.
